Summer sun
Is clinging on.
As I walked today, Saturday
In October.

Summer heat. Summer light.
Summer weather.
Autumn date code.
Summer, hanging on
In heat
Clues of autumn happening slow
Colder mornings
Darker nights
Sky with deeper hues of blue
Leaves turning shades of gold.

Summer sun
Like so many things
Isn’t letting go of us yet
Open sky.
Clouds parted
Summer.
Not departed.
Autumn brings her metaphors
Of letting go
Of what has gone before.
Yet also
Unlike todays Summer sun
Sometimes.
Some things.
Let go of us.
Leaving the stage by the side door.
Celebrated and revered.
Pained and lost.
Wounds exposed in the absence.
The poignancy of the leave.
Death of the friend
Change of circumstance.
A goodbye
The song might play the minor key
A loss that plays a tune
Never alone, as so many things of life
Leave
Without our choosing.
Yet graced us with their beauty.
Autumn heralded and invited in
Summer clings on
Today.
The leaves fall and will do more
Tree in her rhythmic cycle
Of letting go and leaving
Releasing the attachment
That bore it fruit
And carried her growth.
Tears of gratitude befriend us
When loss finds us
Letting go
Of what we cannot hold
Mourning into the Suns
New morning.
We must let go, reluctantly, painfully
To what let’s go of us
Releasing them
To their glory
To their story
To their soul friend.
Releasing Summer
Into the sky again.
